Report of the WSU Commission on Interdisciplinary Studies
During the 1992-1993 academic year , an internal Commission on Interdisciplinary Studies examined the state of interdisciplinary research and teaching at Wayne State University. The report, based on a campus-wide survey, presents the Commission's findings
and analysis. It includes a tally of existing activities, discussion of barriers, recommendations for greater facilitation with designated outcomes,
and appendices containing the survey instrument and data. The discussion of key result areas covers administrative structure,
research and curriculum programs, reward structure, communication, funding and resources, and integration of teaching, research, and services.
In 2004, the Office of the Vice President for Research used the report to frame its new initiative to promote and sustain
interdisciplinary activities.
