Area of Interest
We are working with Dr. R. Kannan in Chemical Engineering and Dr. David Bassett in Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences to develop drug-dendrimer complexes for targeted drug delivery. We have completed a significant number of in vitro experiments showing cell entry and anti-inflammatory effects of dendrimer-ibuprofen or dendrimer-methylprednisolone complexes tagged with FITC. We have also completed a series of experiments evaluating the deposition of dendrimer complexes following nasal instillation in mice with ovalbumin-induced airway inflammation. We are currently planning IV injection of FITC-tagged dendrimer-methylprednisolone complexes in mice with ozone-induced lung inflammation.

Resources
All of the dendrimer-drug complexation and characterization work is done in Dr. R. Kannan’s lab in the Chemical Engineering and Material Science Bldg. Animal work takes place in Dr. Bassett’s lab in the Applebaum Pharmacy Bldg.
