Biological Agent User Application Forms

As an institution receiving funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), WSU is subject to the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules.

Risk Group 2 (RG2) agents are associated with human disease for which preventative or therapeutic interventions are often available.

All research with RG2 agents requires review by the IBC. For a complete list, see Appendix B-II in the NIH Guidelines. Common examples of RG2 Agents include:

Adenovirus
Adeno Associated Virus (AAV)
Adeno Associated Virus Serotype 2 (AAV2)
Herpesvirus
Lentivirus
Murine Stem Cell Virus (Retrovirus)
Staph Aureus
Streptococcus species

IBC requirements:

All IBC applications and written standard operating procedures (SOPs) must be turned into the Biological Safety Officer two weeks before the scheduled IBC meeting.
