OVPR to Host NCURA Video Workshop

On Tuesday, September 13, 2005, Wayne State University will participate in a nationwide videoconference entitled, “Best Practices in Research Compliance: Update on Policies and Regulations and Implementation at Institutions.” The Office of the Vice President for Research would like to extend an invitation for all interested parties on campus to attend this special one-time workshop.

The videoconference, sponsored by the National Council of University Research Administrators, is especially relevant for faculty and research administrators throughout the university community. It will include an overview of the current state of various non-fiscal compliance areas such as human subjects, animal use, rDNA, safety, biohazards, select agents, and conflicts of interest. The faculty for this workshop will address centralized vs. decentralized responsibility an dinclude examples of lines of responsibility. Suggestions on monitoring to ensure compliance and a look at available tools will be highlighted, and the workshop will conclude by sharing information on how institutions are covering the increasing cost of compliance.

The workshop will begin at 11:30 and end at 3:30, with a short break to allow participants a chance to obtain lunch. It will take place in the Bernath Auditorium of the David Adamany Undergraduate Library. In order that we may have enough handouts for all participants, the OVPR requests that if you plan to attend this exciting event, please notify Amanda Reese of the Sponsored Programs Administration office (areese@wayne.edu, or 577-2294).
