Nano@Wayne Seminar Series

The Office of the Vice President for Research announces a new seminar series for faculty interested in learning about nanosciences. Nanosciences is the study of materials and devices that are approximately one-billionth of a meter in size. The new seminar series is intended to introduce participants to the field of nanosciences and nanotechnology, discuss the latest research findings, and provide a forum in which faculty can discuss potential collaborations.

We invite you, your colleagues and graduate students to attend the seminars and join us for a reception afterwards.

The first three seminars are as follows:

Tuesday, September 20 at 3:00 p.m. in the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Auditorium: Dr. Sandro da Rocha from Chemical Engineering and Materials Science will provide a lecture on “Novel Formulations for the Pulmonary Delivery of Polar/Bio Molecules.” (Following the lecture, a reception will be held in room 425.)

Tuesday, October 4 at 2:30 p.m. in the 1500 Engineering Lecture Hall: Dr. Paul McEuen of Cornell University will provide a seminar on “Carbon Nanotubes: Transistors, Sensors, and Tiny Guitars.“
Tuesday, October 18 at 3:00 p.m. in the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Auditorium: Dr. Peter Hoffmann from Physics will speak on “When a Liquid is Not a Liquid: The Mysteries of Nanoconfined Fluids.”

Other guests who will be visiting WSU this year include Vladimir Shalaev from Purdue, Gregory Lanza from Washington University Medical School and Cathy Murphy from the University of South Carolina.

Please contact Freda Giblin (fgiblin@med.wayne.edu; 577-3448) if you have any questions.
