Dr. Donald Tomalia to Speak at Nano@Wayne Seminars

Wayne State University’s Office of the Vice President for Research has announced its 2006 – 2007 seminar series for researchers, students and the general public interested in the nanosciences. This seminar series is intended to introduce participants to the latest research findings in the nanosciences and nanotechnology and provide a forum in which attendees can discuss potential collaborations and opportunities.

Dr. Donald Tomalia, distinguished research scientist and professor at Central Michigan University, co-director of the National Center for Dendrimer Based Nanotechnolgy at CMU, and president and chief technical officer at Dendritic NanoTechnology, Inc. will kick-off the seminar series as guest speaker on Tuesday, September 19 at 2:30 p.m. at Scott Hall’s Green Hall - 3rd Floor.

Dr. Tomalia launched his academic and entrepreneurial ventures after a 25-year management and senior scientist career with The Dow Chemical Company. During that time, he was credited with numerous commercial developments which included Citrucel® (now marketed by GlaxoSmithKline), cationic polymerization of 2-oxazolines and discovery of the fourth major class of macromolecular architecture; namely, “dendritic polymers.” He is the inventor and originator of the term “dendrimers,” and is listed on over 100 U.S. patents and more than 180 peer reviewed publications. Over 150 of these publications are focused on the dendrimer and dendritic polymer field, including a monograph entitled “Dendrimers and Other Dendritic Polymers.”

The seminar is free and open to the public. To register, please email contact information to research@wayne.edu. To learn more about Nano@Wayne, visit http://www.research.wayne.edu/nano/
