OVPR Applies for Accreditation
The Office of Vice President for Research has submitted a formal application for accreditation to the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP). To prepare for the accreditation, the Office of Research Compliance and the Human Investigation Committee (HIC) administrators carried out a one year self-assessment of the processes and procedures used to ensure that all research involving human participants at WSU and its medical affiliates, biomedical or social/behavioral, is conducted in compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations. This resulted in a new Human Research Protection Program, endorsed by President Reid, the development of new policies and a revision of existing policies and procedures.
AAHRPP will conduct a three day site visit in late March or early April of 2007. At that time 3-5 site visitors will interview a wide range of individuals involved in human subject research, including, faculty, students and staff. We appreciate the cooperation of the WSU research community in this endeavor and in creating a University culture that values integrity in the conduct of human research as well as the pursuit of knowledge and innovation that provide human benefits. The HIC Education Coordinator and Research Compliance Officer will provide guidance in preparation for the site visit. If you have any questions or suggestions, please call (313) 577-1628.
