Faculty Competition for Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA)
Deadline: January 17, 2007

GRA positions will be awarded directly to faculty on a university-wide competitive basis for support of their research/scholarship and training endeavors. Funding for the assistantships will be awarded primarily on the merits of the proposed research/scholarship or training opportunities, the past productivity of the investigator(s), the award’s potential for increasing publication output and external funding, and the alignment with the university/unit strategic goals and objectives as well as the research/scholarship and training priorities identified by the schools/colleges.

Appointment to these GRA positions is restricted to Ph.D. students at the time of the appointment. The research conducted by the appointed GRA must be directly related to his/her own dissertation research. Requests for GRAs require the approval of all department chairs and deans of the faculty involved. For requests involving more than one school or college, one dean should be designated as the lead dean.

Each dean’s office should submit an e-mail to sjames@wayne.edu by 5.00pm on January 17, 2007 attaching the following documents:
- Dean’s cover letter including information detailed above (this can also be faxed to 577-3626)
- One PDF document per applicant that contains proposal, biosketch or abbreviated CV (no longer than 4 pages), and signature page(s)

Educational Development Grant Award
Deadline: February 2, 2007

As defined by the WSU/AAUP Agreement, awards under this provision are intended to aid in the improvement of teaching, the development of new departmental and inter-departmental courses, the development of new approaches to existing courses, and the employment of new materials in courses. Projects in such areas as advising, counseling and library usage are also considered. The awards may be used for summer salary, release time during the academic year, student assistants or necessary supplies and equipment.

Minority/Women Summer Grant Program
Deadline: February 9, 2007
Maximum Award: $10,000

The Minority/Women Summer Grant Program was established under contract with the AAUP. The program provides $50,000 annually for the purpose of allowing release-time from teaching for minority faculty bargaining unit members and women faculty bargaining unit members in units where females and minorities have been underrepresented. Untenured, tenure-track women faculty from such units and minority faculty members are eligible.

Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Faculty Scholar Award (summer)
Notify CHR of intent to submit: February 1, 2007
Deadline: March 1, 2007
Maximum Award: $15,000

The 2007 DMC Faculty Scholar Award Program will fund studies that focus on translating WSU faculty research into studies of clinical practice at the DMC. Both need-based and hypothesis-testing proposals are of interest. Three faculty teams, each of which is composed of one Research Faculty Scholar and one Clinical Faculty Scholar, will be funded each calendar year. The Clinical Faculty Scholar must be a CON faculty. The Research Faculty Scholar may be from a WSU Department other than Nursing. Faculty Scholar teams will be assisted in finding a required co-investigator from the DMC Department of Nursing. Proposals will be judged on a number of factors in addition to scientific merit including (a) innovativeness, (b) impact on DMC nursing practice, and (c) likelihood of research leading to major external funding.
