A Special Message on DLAR Per Diem Rates

The National Institutes of Health have announced that its budget has not been increased for 2007 to allow for inflationary cost increases, and therefore the NIH will not be funding inflationary increases on awards in this fiscal year.

Under these circumstances OVPR, in consultation with DLAR, has decided to roll back the per diem rates for animal care to 2006 rates for the 2007 fiscal year, so as to try to ease the burden on investigators.

This decision applies to all investigators, whether or not they are funded by NIH.

This change will begin for all animals housed in Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR) facilities beginning January 1, 2007. For future grants and contracts it is strongly urged that increases of 4 % per annum be used for budget projections and that fees previously announced for FY 07 be used as the benchmark.
