Dr. Adhip Majumdar Receives Veterans Affairs Award
Dr. Adhip Majumdar, Professor of Internal Medicine, is the recipient of a highly-competitive renewable award from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The Senior Research Career Scientist award provides salary support for 7 years. While in funding it is similar to the NIH merit award, the Senior Research Career Scientist award is not based on a detailed research proposal and narrative, but on academic accomplishments of the applicant. These include, but not limited to a history (past and >current) of extramural research funding; a record of original publications, book chapters, reviews, and the like; professional activities such as serving as member of Study Sections (NIH, VA or other agencies); and teaching activities and the mentoring of students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty.
Dr. Majumdar’s research focuses on growth factor receptors, specifically the EGF-receptor and its family members, and their role in aging and gastrointestinal carcinogenesis. He has also been pursuing research in the following areas:
- The regulation of gastrointestinal mucosal growth during aging;
- Chemopreventive role of nutrients/dietary ingredients, particularly folic acid, curcumin and calcium in gastrointestinal cancers.
- Therapeutic potential of EGFR Related Protein (ERRP), which he has isolated and characterized as an anti-cancer agent.
