OVPR to Host Seminar with Export Control Expert

On February 26, 2007 at 3:30 p.m., the Office of the Vice President for Research is hosting a one-hour seminar with export control expert, Dr. Susan Sedwick, Associate Vice President for Research at the University of Texas, in the Bernath Auditorium located in the Adamany Undergraduate Library.

The OVPR invites you to attend this important session where Dr. Sedwick will discuss export control regulations and how they apply to you. Since September 11, 2001, existing export control regulations have been re-emphasized as a method of anti-terrorism. This has resulted in an increased federal scrutiny of university research, particularly in the life sciences, engineering, computer technology and biological materials, but also in areas as diverse as foreign travel and purchasing. The regulations concern a broad and sometimes unexpected range of products, technology, information and activities, both within the United States and internationally. Consequences of violating such export laws/regulations can result in monetary penalties, jail time and loss of export privileges.

Dr. Sedwick’s presentation will focus on what you can do to comply with export control regulations. Please email research@wayne.edu to confirm your attendance. We hope you will join us for this important event!
