Humanities Center Faculty Fellowships

Theme: “Sovereignty, Justice and the Law across Disciplines”
Maximum Award: Range from $6,000 - $14,000. Average 2004-2005 award: $8000

The Humanities Center was established to foster, promote, and fund research and creative activity by faculty and students in the humanities. The Center sponsors an annual competition for faculty fellowships, for which tenured and tenure-track faculty in the humanities may apply. Proposals for the 2005-2006 competition should address the theme “Sovereignty, Justice and the Law Across Disciplines”

The Munich Exchange Fellowship
Deadline: April 2, 2007

The Graduate School sponsors one competition annually for the Munich Graduate Exchange-Fellowship Program. This award provides one year of study at the University of Munich with the remission of all tuition fees and a monthly stipend sufficient to meet a single student’s normal living expenses for ten (10) months. Eligible students must be U.S. citizens, admitted to a Wayne State University graduate program and have written and oral competence in the German Language. Additional information and applications are available from the Scholarships and Fellowships Office of the Graduate School. Students pursuing the J.D. or M.D. degrees should consult the Law School or School of Medicine concerning financial assistance.

The King-Chavez-Parks Future Faculty Fellowship Program
Deadline: April 2, 2007

The Graduate School sponsors one competition annually for King-Chavez-Parks Future Faculty Fellowships. The KCP Fellowship provides an annual stipend from one to three years, up to a maximum of $35,000 over a three-year period. The purpose of the Fellowship is to assist students who intend to pursue a full-time teaching position in a post secondary institution within one year of receiving their doctoral degree at Wayne State University. The eligibility requirements include: United States citizenship or permanent resident status; Michigan residency status as defined by the university; being an underrepresented minority (Black, Hispanic, or Native American) in the chosen field of study; and acceptance into a Wayne State University doctoral program. The Fellowship may be used to supplement other awards. Additional information and applications are available from the Scholarships and Fellowships Office of the Graduate School. Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects Grant
Summer Deadline: April 18, 2007

The Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects Grant is intended to enhance the opportunities undergraduate students have to participate in research and creative activities under the guidance of faculty members. Undergraduates are invited to submit proposals for research or creative projects that are sponsored by faculty and involve the undergraduate(s) working in collaboration with a faculty sponsor. Research projects will normally focus on the development and testing of a hypothesis or theory using methods relevant to one or more the academic discipline(s). Creative projects will involve the development of new materials–for instance artistic, literary, educational, or physical–by methods other than those traditionally considered as research.

The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) will fund proposals at a maximum of $3,050 each. Up to $2,300 is available for the student, either as tuition remission or a stipend. Up to $750 is available for justified research costs. A research project could involve up to three undergraduates working with a faculty member.
