IMR Announces GRA Competition

The Institute for Manufacturing Research will fund approximately 10 GRAs for the academic year starting Fall Term 2008.  The GRA support will provide salary, fringe benefits and resident tuition for the student.  No additional support will be provided. An individual faculty member may submit only one request.  Review by a faculty committee will be based on past performance in mentoring students, external funding and the scientific merit of the proposed research. The focus for these GRA awards will be on materials science and engineering including synthesis, characterization and uses.  Special emphasis will be given to projects involving nanomaterials or projects that have a high potential to obtain external support from industry or governmental sources.

The timeline is as follows:  Announcement - February 1, 2008; Proposal Submissions due - March 14, 2008; Proposal Award Announcement - April 18, 2008

All proposals must follow the following guidelines to be considered:

1.  One page cover sheet with the name of the PI, department, contact information, title of the proposal, list of all WSU supported GRAs in FY 05, 06 and/or 07 and an abstract/executive summary of the proposal being submitted.  2. A proposal not to exceed 3 pages describing the proposed project.

3. A list of all funded or pending projects FY06 to the present in the required format.

4. A list of all graduate students advised by the faculty member in FY 05, 06 and 07, the name of the student(s) and their current status in the graduate progam or date of their graduation and thesis title.

5. A current CV of the faculty member in the WSU format.

6. Note: No budget material is required.  These grants only provide support for the GRA including stipend, resident tuition and fees and fringe benefits.

Completed grant applications containing items 1 through 5 must be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word or PDF format to “Lynne Wegner” at aa6521@wayne.edu and copies to jpo@wayne.edu and gnewaz@eng.wayne.edu by 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2008.

All material should be submitted using Microsoft Word format and 12 pt Times New Roman font. The format for support is given below and must be followed for the grant to be given full consideration:
