Launch of Biostatistical, Study Design & Epidemiology Services Announced
The Wayne State University/Henry Ford Health System Biostatistical, Study Design and Epidemiology Services have been launched as part of the WSU/HFHS combined initiative to secure a National Institute of Health Clinical and Translational Science Award.
The Clinical and Translational Science Award was instituted by the National Institutes for Health in response to the need to remove silos that now exist in the clinical research enterprise. It is anticipated that these changes will result in improving and expediting the translation of new knowledge to patient care.
Consortium investigators planning a research grant that meets CTSA criteria will be able to obtain assistance for contributions relating to study design, power calculations and other services in support of grant submissions, as well as access to support for data analysis. The staff will help investigators in the spectrum from conceptualizing an idea for a research study to the type of analysis that should be used to obtain results.
Application is a simple two-step process:
1. Fill out the participant investigator registration form. The form can be obtained at www.ctsa.wayne.edu. Completed forms should be faxed to (313) 993-4534.
2. Call George Divine at (313) 874-6724 for an appointment to meet with a member of the Biostatistical Services team.
During this trial period, assistance provided for study design, power calculations and preparation of statistical plans for preparation of grants will be conducted free of charge to investigators. Assistance provided for data analysis and interpretation will be provided at a fee of $87 per hour. For the latter services, investigators will need to provide billing information at the time initial services are requested. Per-hour fees, as well as alteration in services provided at no charge, are subject to change.
It is expected that all publications and other scientific communications utilizing these services will acknowledge the contribution of the CTSA Services, and that a copy of each will be provided to ctsa@wayne.edu.
Questions, concerns and suggestions can be emailed to kbeard@med.wayne.edu.
