Pfizer recently announced that they will be donating up to $1.25 million worth of research equipment, glassware and other lab supplies to four Michigan universities - WSU, U of M, MSU and EMU. Notification of what will be donated or when the donation will be made has not yet been announced .

Faculty and students are invited to the next Computational Biology Seminar on February 20, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. The guest speaker is Dr. Bernie Brooks, Senior Investigator, Laboratory of Computational Biology, National Institutes of Health, speaking on “Multi-scale Methods for Macromolecular Systems in Computational Biophysics.”

The next seminar is February 19, 2008 - 2:30 p.m. Dr. James Hone, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Columbia University will present “Electrical, Mechanical and Optical Studies of Carbon Nanotubes with Known Chirality.”

The Merrill-Palmer Skillman Institute is pleased to announce their Winter 2008 Colloquium Series centered around research to enhance the well-being of children and families, and invite all WSU faculty to attend. The Burroughs Wellcome Fund has announced the Career Awards at the Scientific Interface program, intended to foster the early career development of postdoctoral scientists with backgrounds in the physical/computational sciences whose work addresses biological questions and who are dedicated to pursuing a career in academic research. Only two (2) nominations per institution will be accepted, or three if one of the nominations is a female.

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund has announced a new institutional training program - Institutional Program Unifying Population and Laboratory Based Sciences - in the hope to develop a new cadre of scientists working at the connections between population approaches to human health and basic biomedical research. Letters of Intent are required aad due March 3, 2008.
