Dr. Diane Chugani receives $5.7 million grant from National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke

Dr. Diane Chugani, professor of Pediatrics and Radiology in the School of Medicine at WSU, was recently awarded a $5.79 million grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke of the National Institutes of Health for a study that may open doors to finding a treatment for improving those afflicted with autism.

Sandra Jacobson discovers new way to identify children exposed prenatally to alcohol

Researchers at WSU have discovered that lack of eyeblink response in eyeblink conditioning tests may help to identify children who have been prenatally exposed to alcohol - fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) - according to results published in the February 2008 issue of Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research.

Mateika receives $1.5 million from National Institutes of Health

Jason H. Mateika, Ph.D., of the Department of Physiology and Internal Medicine in the School of Medicine, was recently awarded $1.5 million from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health. His grant, “Impact of Intermittent Hypoxia on Ventilatory Drive and Apnea Severity,” will investigate sleep apnea, a sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep.

Kannan, Kannan and Iezzi developing nanodevices for use in diagnostics and therapy

A team of researchers from WSU’s College of Engineering, School of Medicine and the Kresge Eye Institute - Ligon Center, have been collaborating to discover and develop new nanodevices that will aid in the diagnosis and treatment of a number of neuroinflammatory diseases and infections that are currently difficult to target and treat.

National Children’s Study awarded $18.5 million - WSU is major participant
