Blast Injury Symposium - May 15 and 16

Blast injuries to US troops and bystanders are being called the signature wound of the current military conflicts. IED’s are the cause of most injuries and account for almost 80% of all wounds to U.S. troops. Many troops caught near these explosions suffer symptoms such as perforated eardrums, ringing in the ears, blurred vision, memory lapses, headaches and more long-lasting effects.

Career Development Grants in Occupational Safety and Health Research (K01)

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) invite grant applications for research career development related to occupational safety and health. The goal of the NIOSH research program is to support research that is relevant and of high quality, and will have an impact in reducing occupational disease and injury. This program is intended to contribute to this goal by facilitating the preparation of the next generation of occupational safety and health researchers.

WSU start-up, SenSound, announces product to “de-noise” environment for quality control testing

SenSound, LLC recently introduced SenQC, a software based quality control system for manufacturers of products in a broad spectrum of industries. SenQC will allow manufacturers to conduct high-throughput 100% in-line and end-of-line pass/fail inspections of components, subassemblies and finished goods to verify acoustic signatures and test for noise indicated defects.

Paul Karchin and Rob Harr, professors of Physics in the College of Liberal Arts and Science has been selected to join the Compact Muon Solenoid collaboration at the European Center for Nuclear Research, the world’s leading laboratory for particle physics located in Geneva, Switzerland.
