Dr. Dunbar (Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Sydney, Australia) was director of biotechnology development and biomedical innovation in Wayne State University’s School of Medicine. She has extensive experience promoting and facilitating commercial translation of academic research including assessing market opportunities and developing commercialization strategies for biomedical technologies, acting as mentor on STTR and SBIR proposals for technology development, and securing more than $350,000 from Michigan-based programs to support proof-of-concept studies for faculty inventions. She has been key in launching a number of WSU start-up companies and is a member of the university’s patent advisory committee. In addition, she has created educational opportunities in biotechnology entrepreneurship that aim to educate graduate students and faculty on clinical and commercial translation.

Mr. Dogwill (MBABA, Wayne State University) is Project Manager of Innovation Programs within the Technology Commercialization Office. These programs include the Technology Development Incubator and Innovation Fellows Program which are designed to provide comprehensive support to address the cultural, technological and financial challenges associated with the translation of innovative early stage technologies from academia to the marketplace. He has experience in management science, organizational culture, technology commercialization, cross-functional team leadership, and education.  As an alumnus of WSU, Mr. Dogwill is proud to continue his commitment to the university and surrounding region.

Dr. Grynaviski (Ph.D., Duke University, BS, College of William & Mary) joins Wayne State as an expert in commercializing bio-physical chemistry technologies. She has extensive experience in research and development as well as in project management, business development and intellectual property management. Previously, she worked as a scientist for a successfully acquired technology start-up and as a consultant to several universities evaluating commercialization opportunities.

Ken Massey

Dr. Ken Massey’s (Ph.D., University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, and B.S. Eastern Michigan University) combined 28 years of biomedical research and business experience in the academic, pharmaceutical and biotech arenas will benefit Wayne State University’s efforts to identify start-up opportunities and facilitate efforts ofWSU entrepreneurs to create companies that will license and develop WSUtechnology. He will play an important role in interacting with other academic institutions, regional and state economic development agencies and the venture community.  Before joining Wayne State, he was managing director of MicroDose Life Sciences and its associated venture capital fund, LifeLine Ventures. Prior to MicroDose, Massey was an assistant professor of anesthesiology and pharmacology at the University of Michigan before joining Pfizer where he was responsible for the scientific and operational aspects of several drug development programs.

Mr. John Shallman (B.A. Grand Valley State University) has over 24 years of diverse experience in the technology commercialization arena. He will lead Wayne State’s licensing efforts to help identify, evaluate, develop and execute potential new innovations.  For the past six years, he was director of commercialization at William Beaumont Health System, and prior to that was the life sciences sector development manager at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, where he managed life sciences initiatives for the State of Michigan’s Technology Tri-Corridor Investment program, and worked across the state to develop startup and attraction programs in the life sciences.

Ms. Terlecky (BS Tufts University) has spent over 25 years in academic research laboratories as a technician and lab manager (Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences, The Scripps Research Institute, and Wayne State University School of Medicine).  Familiar with working amongst a diverse group with varied requirements, she brings her management skills to this job to keep the office connected with its customers while supporting the staff in their various projects.  She is located in our main office at 5057 Woodward two days a week, and maintains a presence in Scott Hall on the medical school campus the other three days.

Mr. Wetzler (MBAMSBS, University of Michigan – Ann Arbor) leads assessment, marketing, and licensing of WSU engineering and physical sciences inventions. He has experience in product development, strategy consulting, technology commercialization, startups and venture capital. Prior to joining Wayne State in 2013, he was an independent consultant focusing on innovation, renewable energy, and early stage technologies. Mr. Wetzler began his carer as a product development engineer with Ford Motor Company.

Ms. Willis (BS, Oakland University) has extensive experience in providing marketing research and analysis for a wide variety of advanced technology products and services. Prior to joining Wayne State University, she worked at two Fortune 100 companies (Visteon Corp. and EDS) in various marketing research and management roles, providing strategic direction and value analysis for advanced technologies in engineering and information technology.
