Research Orientation for New Faculty
Welcome!
The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to welcome new faculty to Wayne State University. We aim to provide resources to assist new faculty as they lay the groundwork for excellence in research, teaching, and service.
Every year the Division of Research has a VIRTUAL SCAVENGER HUNT for new faculty members to introduce our Research resources and programs. The 3 new faculty who submitted the highest number of accurate answers in the shortest amount of time will receive professional travel awards in the amounts of $1500 (1st place), $1000 (2nd place), and $500 (3rd place).
To participate, you faculty must have attended our Intro to Research New Faculty Orientation session from 9:30 to 11 AM on Wednesday August 22 in the Community Room of the Undergraduate Library. Winners emailed answers to sjames@wayne.edu by Thursday August 23 at 9 AM.

To help you as you begin your career at WSU, we have posted our Research Handbook for New Faculty and the Intro to Research presentation online. For further insight on what to expect as a new professor, please refer to the article Starting Fresh featured in The Chronicles of Higher Education.
The Burroughs Wellcome Fund and HHMI, have created Making the Right Moves: A Practical Guide to Scientific Management for Postdocs and New Faculty. This book is a collection of practical advice and experiences from seasoned biomedical investigators. The second edition contains three new chapters on laboratory leadership, project management, and teaching and course design.
We hope to meet you at our Research Reception for New Faculty on October 17.
