The Institutional Review Board
reviews and approves research involving human subjects, ensuring that all human subject research at Wayne State be conducted in accordance with all federal, institutional and ethical guidelines.
Wayne State University (WSU) has five separate committees that are constituted as Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), and which have oversight over all human participant research at WSU and its affiliates registered under the Wayne State Federalwide Assurance (FWA). There are four IRBs that review medical protocols involving adult participants (PH1, M1, MP2, and MP4). Two of these IRBs (MP2 and MP4) are qualified to review research involving minors (individuals younger than 18 years of age). The Behavioral IRB (B3) is responsible for reviewing all behavioral, education and social science research with adults and minors.
Wayne State University Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) is fully accredited by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs Inc. (AAHRPP).
