Notes:

  • Per diem charges cover daily observation of every animal, veterinary care, health surveillance program, watering, feeding standard animal feed, general supplies, facility maintenance, disease outbreak management, and appropriate sanitation of rooms and cages according to the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and Wayne State University procedures. All other services and supplies are not covered and are charged separately.
  • Per diem charges indicated for rodents are per cage.
  • Special handling includes diabetic rodents, as well as other rodents, that may require more frequent cage changes than typically provided.
  • Animal census is counted daily and recorded on the census sheet on the room clipboard. Principal Investigators are encouraged to verify the recorded census on a regular basis.
  • Space requirements must comply with the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and federal Animal Welfare Act Regulations. See the Wayne State IACUC Space Recommendations policy.
