Training Grant Support - NSF

Project Description

The NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) program invites proposals aimed at helping graduate students in research-based master’s and doctoral programs develop the essential skills, knowledge, and competencies for a variety of STEM careers. This program focuses on providing effective training for STEM graduate students in high-priority interdisciplinary or convergent research areas. It supports a comprehensive traineeship model that is innovative, evidence-based, and responsive to evolving workforce and research needs. Proposals are encouraged to address any national priority theme in interdisciplinary or convergent research, as outlined below.

The NRT program focuses on workforce development, with an emphasis on broad participation and building institutional capacity in graduate education. It encourages proposals that involve strategic collaborations with various sectors, including the private sector, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government agencies, national laboratories, field stations, teaching and learning centers, informal science centers, and academic institutions. The program particularly welcomes proposals that partner with NSF's Inclusion across the Nation of Communities of Learners of Underrepresented Discoverers in Engineering and Science (INCLUDES) initiative, leveraging its efforts to develop STEM talent from all sectors and communities (https://www.nsf.gov/news/special_reports/big_ideas/includes.jsp). Collaborations between NRT proposals and existing NSF INCLUDES projects should aim to strengthen both initiatives.
