Fall Symposium
On Oct. 9, 2015, the Office of the Vice President for Research along with RoBUST, Researchers of Biobehavioral Health in Urban Settings Today, a group of over 50 faculty across many different departments and disciplines across the Wayne State Campus, hosted their first fall symposium. This symposium welcomed over 100 people to WSU's new IBio building which is devoted to team science initiatives.
Over the course of the day, a series of talks from nationally recognized speakers in the area of biobehavioral health were held. Guest speakers included:
- Sheldon Cohen Robert E. Doherty Professor of Psychology, Carnegie Mellon University: "Social Relationships and Health"
- Arline Geronimus, Research Professor, Population Studies Center of the Institute for Social Research, University of Michigan: "Population Health, Weathering, and Telomeres"
- Michael Irwin: Professor and Director of the Cousins Center in Psychoneuroimmunology, UCLA : "Optimizing Well-Being with Mindful Awareness Practices: Implications for Depression, Insomnia, and Inflammation"
- Sarah Gehlert: E. Desmond Lee Professor of Racial and Ethnic Diversity at Washington University: "Social Factors in Multi-Level Models of Health: On What Should we Focus?
