DOE releases systems biology research to advance bioenergy crop production funding opportunity
In December the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science Biological and Environmental Research Program (BER) announced a research program to advance bioenergy crop production. BER supports fundamental research to drive biological processes, genetics, and plant life. The research solicitation, housed within the Biological Systems Science Division’s Genomic Science Program, seeks research on molecular mechanisms for bioenergy and investigations into microbial communities. The program focuses on the production of cost-effective biofuels and bioproducts in varied environments. DOE is interested in understanding the next steps in developing plant-microbes and computational technologies to properly model plant processes and traits.
DOE anticipates allocating up to $75 million for the program and will make as many as 15 awards for up to $3 million per year for as many as five years. Pre-applications are required and are due on January 17, 2025, and will be evaluated before the invitation to submit full applications, which are due on March 26, 2025. The full solicitation is available here.
