U.S. Army Futures Command Release AI Integration Center (AI2C) BAA
In 2019, the U.S. Army developed the Artificial Intelligence Integration Center (AI2C), formerly the AI Task Force, in partnership with and based out of Carnegie Mellon University. The center’s mission is to connect the Army with the broader AI community and to better identify new and emerging technologies to solve challenges in the field. Periodically, AI2C releases Broad Agency Announcements (BAAs) seeking proposals for research and development in AI.
On behalf of the AI2C, the U.S. Army Futures Command released a BAA for basic, applied, and advanced scientific research. AI2C is seeking whitepapers and proposals that focus on new technologies to support the “identification, alignment, and exploration” of AI. The announcement includes “foundational research topics of interest” which are:
- “Autonomous Platforms;
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Algorithms (AI/ML);
- AI/ML Decision Support;
- Human-AI Integration;
- Synthetic Environments;
- Distributed AI;
- Underpinning Methodologies; and
- Special Topics.”
Proposal Deadline: This BAA will remain continuously open for five years. Proposals will be accepted until 11:59 pm EST on May 31. While not required, applicants may submit a white paper prior to the submission of a complete proposal.
Award Type and Size: Anticipated awards may be granted in a variety of forms including procurement contracts, grants, cooperative agreements, and technology investment agreements (TIAs), and other transactions (OTs). There is no cost-sharing requirement.
Eligibility: Institutions of higher education, non-profit organizations, and for-profit organizations may apply.
