Effective Schedule of Procedures or Timeline

The WSU IACUC protocol requires inclusion of a schedule or timeline for all procedures planned in the protocol. The schedule should be written in the Schedule of Procedures section.

Occasionally, protocol approvals are delayed because the reviewers need additional information in the schedule. To avoid delays, it is helpful if the schedule is in the form of a complete timeline that begins with arrival or birth of animals and ends with euthanasia of the animal. An example of a written timeline is:

Day -2 = arrival at facility, acclimation

Day 0-21 = altered diet treatment

Day 50 = surgery #1

Day 60 = injection of biological

Day 72 = euthanasia

Such a timeline should be provided for each experimental or treatment group in your protocol. Reviewers also find diagrams helpful. Examples of timelines and diagrams can be provided by the IACUC Office (IACUC@wayne.edu).

If you have questions about the Schedule of Procedures section or the IACUC protocol form in general, please contact the IACUC Office (IACUC@wayne.edu).
