New Visitor Policy for WSU Animal Facilities

Persons not handling animals (University personnel or not) who require access to a WSU animal facility or laboratory where animal procedures are currently occurring are considered “VISITORS.” All VISITORS to animal facilities must be escorted at all times by either DLAR staff, IACUC Office staff, or authorized personnel listed on the IACUC protocol.

Wayne State University recognizes that there are circumstances where both University and non-University personnel need access to WSU animal housing and procedure spaces. This includes anyone who is not listed on an active IACUC protocol for the site in question or a person who does not have explicit approval to enter animal housing or use spaces as part of their job function.

Examples of those having approval as part of their job function include DLAR animal care staff, approved safety or facilities management personnel, etc. To obtain approval as a visitor, one must fill out the Visitor Request Form and obtain permission from the IACUC and a DLAR Veterinarian. Completion of the form is not required for access to John D. Dingell VAMC (JDVAMC) animal facilities, as access to JDVAMC facility is only allowed by permission of the JDVAMC Research Office.

If you have any questions about the new Visitor Policy, please contact the IACUC Office at IACUC@wayne.edu.
