Radiation Safety
Wayne State University Radiation Safety program operates based on the empowerment from the Vice President of Research and holds Type A broad scope license with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The broad scope license provides the privilege to use a wide range of radioisotopes with large quantities. The x-ray generating machines are regulated by State of Michigan's Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).
The Radiation Safety program at Wayne State University is responsible for assisting in safe use of ionizing radiation including radioactive materials (RAM) and X-rays in our campus.
The Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) oversees safe use of ionizing radiation by approving protocols, reviewing radiation safety polices and procedures and conducts audit of the program.
In case of any radiation emergencies, contact radiation safety staff at 313-577-1200 during work hours (Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.). After work hours contact Wayne State University Police at 313-577-2222.
